In this Lesson of Black Theatre you take a more in depth look at the struggles and movements of the African Community in its march towards racial equality. This community had originally began after "the Fall of British Tyranny" Play. This play put Africans in a positive light and helped to kick start the movement where African Americans would work towards racial equality by means of Theatre. The African Grove Company was one such movement that tried to use Racially integrated actors to help make societies clash in better circumstances. This company was often raided by police, desecrated by White Supremacist activists, and shamed by society. After this Company was shut down, Its founder relocated to England to work on racial integration there. Minstrel theatre's were often used to degrade and enforce stereotypes of the ethnic communities, forcing them to put up with the results of what the white community took with them when leaving the shows. The Movements to help reach racial equality were actually not in vein, as with strong efforts over time, members of both communities began to truly appreciate one another and push forwards towards a better future later on in the 1900's.
